Thronateeska unveils new Albany book

ALBANY, Ga. — Thronateeska Heritage Center unveiled a new book Friday chronicling life in Albany in the past and present.

Thronateeska Executive Director Tommy Gregors said the book is filled with stories, photos and profiles of local people and businesses and shows some of where Albany’s come since Nelson Tift sent the first cotton barge down the Flint River.

“We endorsed the book, submitted photos to the publisher and helped any way we could,” Gregors said. “It got a good response from museum members last night.”

Thronateeska is selling the books for $39.95 with members receiving a 10 percent discount.

The money received will go exclusively to the museum, due to an agreement with the book’s publisher, Beers Publishing, an Alabama company, Gregors said.

Copies of the book are on sale at the museum and at the Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau on Front Street.
