Sherwood stays unbeaten in region

DAMASCUS – Anna Laine Brock dominated on the mound and led the Sherwood softball team to a 3-1 victory Thursday against Southwest Georgia Academy.

Brock was the winning pitcher and allowed three hits and struck out 10.

She dueled with SGA pitcher Allison Warren for much of the game, but Sherwood runs from Christina Charles, Aubrey Green and Keyada Thomas gave the Lady Eagles enough cushion.

Green, Marylen Kennedy and Thomas had key hits for Sherwood.

COLUMBUS — Lauren Davis made two highlight film catches in the outfield, including a game-saver in the bottom of the seventh, and Lee County hung on to beat Hardaway, 4-3, in a crucial Region 1-AAAAA game on the road in Columbus Thursday night.

The last out came on a grounder to third baseman Ashley Nichols, who threw across the diamond to finally end it.

Lee County (12-8 and now 2-1 in the region race) got the big inning started when Payton Cromer reached first on an error. Danielle Davis singled, and Callaway drove in two runs with a shot in the left-field gap. Caitlyn Lawton drove in Callaway to make it a 3-1 game and Jenna Kitchings drove in the final run with a single.
