Who is this? You should at the very least find a squawk that folks have heard of.

Fredi Gonzalez is the manager of the Atlanta Braves...
beartrap 8 months, 1 week ago
4th best record in major league baseball this year.....braves lead the wild card race by 7 1/2 games.....they just have the misfortune to be in same division as Washington who is having phenomenal year....
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 8 months, 1 week ago
If you watch the game and understand the strategy you would concur that Fredi should not be coaching. The Braves' front office is more to thank for this record than Fredi.

I am going with "beartrap" gotta be a ball player or manager of a team!!! Would have loved for the squawker to have given more information!!!

If you have to ask, the squawk doesn't apply to you.

Who is Atlanta Braves Manager?
Clif 8 months, 1 week ago
Who cares?
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 8 months, 1 week ago
I would say quite a few people care.
Shinedownfan 8 months, 1 week ago
I don't care. Didn't know who he was either.
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 8 months, 1 week ago
I can appreciate that. You don't care about the Braves, much like I don't care about UGA football or Shinedown music.

Some people expect the Braves to go undefeated. This year is nothing like last year. I guess the squawker could not find nothing better to squawk about. I do question Gonzalez's ability to manage, but it's not all bad.
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 8 months, 1 week ago
Do you watch the Braves? I agree with the squawker. Gonzalez's team has a winning record because of the talent, not the coaching. He mismanaged our team last year and is trying his best to do so this year.
VSU 8 months, 1 week ago
Did I say anything that implied that I felt Gonzalez is a good manager? The Braves are 20+ games over .500 which is a lot better than most of the teams in the league, but still you have people that expect the Braves to go undefeated. I have always complained about Gonzalez's managing decisions, but despite Gonzalez the Braves are over 20 games over .500 and still people complain. Maybe next year the Braves will go undefeated.
I always questioned Bobby Cox as manager despite the fact they won 14 straight division titles but that is easy to see when you had Greg Maddax, Tom Glavine & John Smoltz as your starting pitching.
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 8 months, 1 week ago
You played it pretty close to the middle. I don't think anyone expected the Braves to win 100 games this year, with or without Gonzalez. His record over the last 2 years are not indicative of his coaching ability. You throw just about any manager in there and they will produce similar results or better.
I don't think it's about a record, it's about postseason wins. Obviously you have to have a good record to make the playoffs, but once you're there you need strategy with every play. The manager is crucial to a team making a run for a pennant. I am not confident at all with Fredi at the helm come postseason.
VSU 8 months, 1 week ago
That's been going on in Atlanta even when Bobby Cox was manager. Yes he won one world series, but one world series in 14 trips to the playoffs is not very impressive. The Marlins have never won a division title but they at least have two world series titles. twice more than the Braves. You say you could throw any manager in there and the results would have been the same, well the same could be true with Bobby Cox when you have the big three starters in there, and their fourth starter wasn't bad either, any manager should have been able to manage the Braves to the playoffs every year. Still I never once said that Gonzalez was a good manager, in fact I can remember a few losses the Braves had they might have won with a better manager. The one game that sticks in my head was that game that Gonzalez put Livan Hernandez in when they had a 4 run lead and Hernandez was throwing basically batting practice pitches and 8 runs scored before Gonzalez took him out. So no, I never stated that Gonzalez was a good manager and that I was happy with him. i was just pointing out that despite Gonzalez the Braves are in a far better position than most teams in the league and I don't know what part of that you don't understand. The Braves will probably be eliminated again this year but that has been the norm for them. If I was the Braves GM I wouldn't have hired Gonzalez in the first place, i felt the Braves rushed into that decision, but I am not the GM so there is nothing I can do about it.
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 8 months, 1 week ago
Yes, there were times when Bobby would leave a starting pitcher out there a little too long, but I feel it was usually justified to build the trust and confidence of his team.
I agree that the Braves are in a good position. If we had a better manager our position would be better. Perhaps we would be fighting for first place in the division, or best record in baseball.
VSU 8 months, 1 week ago
And I agree with you, and I see your point, the Braves lacked the consistancy that Washington has displayed this year.

Ok, everyone take a deep breath. There you go; now exhale--slowly--slowly--WHOA got a little dizzy there. I must remember to exhale a little faster.

I guess the locals are more worried about this Freddie guy that any events going on here.
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 8 months, 1 week ago
So having one sports related post (or less) per week makes the "locals" out of touch with "real issues?" It can be a breath of fresh air to see comments that aren't about racial issues plaguing Albany.
It's humorous seeing the white people complain about the blacks and vice versa on this website. Humorous because those complaining think they are better, but in reality are doing more to encourage this racial divide.

I guess things would be a lot better if we had another topic about the school board or the president as if everything that could be said hasn't been said.
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 8 months, 1 week ago
Agreed. It gets old...
VSU 8 months, 1 week ago
And I agree with you about Gonzalez not being a good manager, but I am glad they are winning, but they should be doing better than they are. They have a lack of consistancy.
