Standefer had responded to minor traffic collision the scene and was speaking with the woman involved when a van, driven by 23-year-old Peter Keltz, collided with the parked squad car, plowing it toward the two.
In the video, Standefer pulls the woman to safety just before the squad crashes into her vehicle.
“I can’t think of a better way to serve the community that to literally risk my life for them,” Standefer had said in an interview with KCBD-TV when he graduated from the police academy just a few years ago.
Keltz was arrested that night and he is charged with DWI and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remained behind bars on Wednesday with a $55,000 bond.
