ALBANY, Ga. -- Ray Charles Plaza burst with lavender balloons, a bouncy house, food and the Christian Rock sound of "Unbroken" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
It was, according to the website recoverymonth.gov, a celebration of National Recovery Month, which spreads "the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover."
Closer to home, Erica Graham, an event organizer, said it helped draw attention to the agencies that offer help to those afflicted with addictions and mental health issues.
"Not everyone know what help is available to them in the community and that is sad," Graham said. "We have a lot of agencies with tables and information here for people to find out."
The celebration also featured face painting, a bouncy house and the Christian Rock music of the six-piece Unbroken band.
The band offered all original songs some with a bluesy passionate sound recalling the passion of Christ as he went to the cross.
Featured organizations were: The House of Mercy Community Outreach Center, New Direction Private Clinic of Albany, Free Life Church, Albany Second Chance and The Anchorage.
