ASU to host Student Leadership Institute

ALBANY, Ga. —The Albany State University National Alumni Association Student Leadership Institute will be held Friday and Saturday in Albany. The institute is a joint effort between the university and its alumni. The event is designed to provide “soft skill” training to undergraduate students and is offered twice during the academic calendar year. More than 100 ASU students are expected to attend. Distinguished alumni, faculty and staff will serve as volunteer facilitators of the seminars and workshops.

“It is vitally important that ASU students are fully equipped to be competitive not only in their selected academic area, but to understand and master the skills of leadership, effective communication and negotiation and the parliamentary procedures for conducting a meeting. They need to fully understand how to dress for success and influence as they pursue their career path,” said Albany State University National Alumni President Joycia Ricks. “The institute affords an opportunity for students to interact with distinguished and successful alumni; provides for increased alumni visibility and furthers the mutual goals of both organizations,” Ricks continued.

The institute will kick off Friday with a “Meet and Greet” Social from 5 – 7 p.m. The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Saturday in Simmons Hall on ASU’s campus located at 504 College Drive.

"The event is designed to provide 'soft skill' training." So, when do they break out the coloring books?
