DECATUR, GA -- Jasper "Jack" Lauson Dixon, Jr., 58, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012. A funeral service for Jack will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 27, 2012 in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons.
Jack was born in Waycross, Georgia to Jasper Lauson Dixon Sr. and Carol Jean Grant Dixon. He grew up in Albany, Georgia and he was a Master Councilor for the Order of DeMolay. He was a member of the Georgia All-State Band and attended college on a music scholarship. At the University of Georgia, Jack played the trombone in the Red Coat Marching band. In his music career, Jack toured with notable bands such as ELI, out of Tallahassee, Florida and Mother's Finest out of Atlanta, Georgia in the U.S. and abroad. Afterwards, he began working in Atlanta in the technical services industry, including as Technical Services Coordinator for the Georgia World Congress Center. Most recently, Jack had worked as a Director of audiovisual services for TECHRentals, LLC in Atlanta. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Jean Grant Dixon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Cathryn Dixon, Decatur; father Jasper Lauson Dixon, Sr. Waycross, GA; sister and brother-in-law Sheryl and Gary Musil, Charleston, SC; brother Jay Mark Dixon, Charleston, SC; niece Misty Danielle Musil Greenville, SC; great niece Megan Danielle Berry, Columbia, SC; nephew Christopher Mark Musil and wife Tiffany, James Island, SC; great nephew Jenzen Gary Musil, James Island, SC; and a host of great family and friends.
Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice in Jack's name.
The family received friends on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM and will receive friends again today, Thursday from 10:00 until time of the service (12:00) at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
