For many, option A isn't a punishment as much as an opportunity to catch up with old friends.
There's the third option, many end up paralyzed from the neck down. Catching a barage of bullets isn't pleasant.
Option C isn't far removed from option B.
They do not care. For once they are somebody and they only have to shed blood to get accepted. This makes them a big cock for once in their lives. But the term, you reap what you sow has fallen on dead ears. Also somewhere in their lives they have missed the socialization skills where you can be accepted by upstanding citizens, black or white. These gangs gets these people while they are young. Kinda like a church or cult. Muslim radicals too. It is just another niche in the world and they are not going away.
Church does not "get" young kids like gangs do. I would not equate the church with a cult. If you are talking about Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormanism those are cults. You are not making a fair comparison. If gang members come for a rough home, they can still make better choices and overcome their environments. We are all free moral agents that make our own choices weather they are good or bad.
J.W. and Mormonism are not cults...One of the main characteristics of cults is that cults dissolve when the founding leader dies...I can't speak for the J.W's, but how do you explain 14.4 million Mormons, and counting worldwide. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints may not be what is considered a traditional Christian religion, but if people will really take a open-minded look at what we do in our communities, they might be surprised. The Albany LDS were major contributors to volunteer/relief for the Flood of '94 and other area disasters. And during the next one, the helping hand you receive just might be a "Mormon Helping Hand".
You would think that almost 175 years later the "Mormon Cult" talk would end. We don't make or force anyone to join. Those looking into the church are asked, after a series of lessons, to offer up a heartfelt prayer asking if the dicision is right.
I am not opening the "is mormanism a cult debate." It is just my opinion. I base my opinion on the fact that the book of mormon is not the inspired word of God. The book of morman cannot be called the Holy Bible because it is not the Bible. The book of mormon twists parts of the Bible to suit the mormon theology. I could write my own additional testament of Christ to suit my own theology just like Joseph Smith did and Charles Taze of the JW's and L Ron Hubbard did with the church of Scientology.
Plenty of Christians twist parts of the bible to suit their chosen theology as well. I would dispute your contention that the bible is the 'inspired word of god.' If an all-mighty entity inspired the bible, it wouldn't be full of so much nonsense that we can prove and demonstrate as false. It was written by primitive, violent men in the bronze age.
Some Christians do twist the Bible to suit their own theology. I was talking about cults not protestant denominations or the catholic church. If you can find one thing in the Bible that has been dispelled as false by scientific empirical data, then I will believe your statement. No one has been able to disprove the Bible try as they might.
Plenty of people have disproved the bible. There is a ton of non-scientific crap in the bible. How about the directions about not sitting where a woman on her period sat as she is unclean. Or the whole ark story? It would be physically impossible to assemble two of every species on a boat the size described in the bible. There is plenty. What believers usally do is attribute the nonsense to allegory and metaphor. The real proof that the bible is not divinely inspired though is found it what it doesn't contain. The almighty creator is writing his one and only missive to his beloved creation but includes nothing of value regarding medicine, metallurgy, mathematics, physics, botany. No knowledge relating to anything of a scientific nature. God's book wasn't neary as beneficial to human development as works from Galileo, DaVinci, Pythagorous. The list goes on and on. Basically, the bible has a bunch of nonsense: talking snake, talking donkey, talking shrub and does not include any revelatory knowledge outside of primitive bronze age knowledge.
You can have your opinion and I will have mine. This is not the place to debate something like this subject that has been debated for the ages. Lets just agree to disagree.
Based on your definition, Scientology isn't a cult either, right?
They are all cults. Citizen_A just does not want to hear that. I was just stating that just because someone writes an additional book to "complement" the Bible doesn't make their theology a religion it's still a cult in my opinion. Like the moonies, hari krishnas, etc. Sorry for the confusion.
Jehovah's Witnesses are not members of a cult. They believe in Jesus Christ as their mediator between God and man. Every religion was started by someone...it's who the members ultimately follow and worship, that determines if it is a cult. Or, did you think the Baptist faith just dropped from the sky? I bet you think Jesus was a Baptist.
Of course I don't think that Jesus was a Baptist. Don't be absurd. All I can say is, if you don't believe me, read other books about JW's and not just watchtower. That's what they want you to do not read for yourself . Read non JW publications and books and form your own opinion. I have my opinion and you have yours.
I'm not being absurb! All religions stem from some flesh and blood man. I have read other books. For me, any religion that teaches women to show respect to their husbands and look after their children, while serving the community... that's not a cult. For me, any religion that encourages members to study about the known religions of the world before committing, that's not a cult. Any religion that requires a man to treat his wife better than he does his own body, that's not a cult. No one is forced to join them and many are discouraged from becoming one of them, if they are unwilling to live in peace with their fellow man. As you say, you have your opinion...I have mine.
Obviously you did not read it. I do not call church or cult as a comparison. But I can assure you, the devil is walking as freely in the churches of Albany as the gangs over by Albany High.
How did you get 'big cock' past the Herald censors?
For real are they asleep? :-)
But when you are abused or neglected by your single mother who is a kid herself and is more concerned about where her next hit of crack is coming from that where her 6 year old is, the gang at least gives you a sense of family and support.
there's really only one answer...enforced birth control....we have got to stop kids from being born into a culture and environment where they have virtually no chance of becoming productive citizens...if we don't,the non productive citizens are going to overwhelm our countries ability to support them...
someday when we're on the brink of disaster,we may have a leader who has the guts to propose that...but...it may be too late.......
I agree. I've been saying that for years.
Come on beartrap how would these young folks in Albany survive if they weren't allowed to pump out kids for more welfare?
There is not an excuse for gang life as there are too many opportunities in this world now. If a person wants an education or a better life he or she has got to want it bad. Too many people raised in the ghetto have gone on to be the best they can possibly be.
I wonder if #34 made it back from Atlanta yesterday. He should have taken BVR, Da Corch, and BSR and left them there so we would not be assaulted by there inane comments on a daily basis. Just a fleeting thought.....
And a brilliant thought Bulldawg.
Actually gang life doesn't always send you to jail or the cemetary. Take our school board "Gang of four" for example. They put you in high places (Like school superintendent) and let you apply for free school lunches without going to jail such as Velvet Riggins in this case. Yes sir, you become a permanent member of the Good Ole Boy Club, you are set for life and i don't mean life in prison.
I wish I could be in da cluub. LOL
If you are in a gang, even the "Schoolboard Gang", you get your name and picture in the paper and sometimes on the TV... Makes yo' Mama proud. :-)
Even a blind pig gets an acorn once in a blue moon. Had one last month.
Problem is the TV shows Profit, Cars, Women, Boats and one of the best life styles. Just look at the Gang related shows, and then there is that supposed group of Italians. All leading a Gang life, and from what people see, a very good life. That is what youngsters see, the chance to live that life. Up until, and when the Gangster Life style is depicted as a failure, it is the carrot out there attracting the moth to the flame. Just like buying Lottery tickets. Everyone knows only a few will make it, but if you don't play you certainly won't make it. So do we turn on these groups as an uprising mass, ot do we allow it to continue, much as we allow our Politicians to continue, and our Lawyers to continually corrupt our systems by being politicians and writing laws that only Lawyers can understand, with more loopholes for them to profit from, If laws and penalties were straight forward and simple there would be far less need for Lawyers.
What about the White House? ... It has been proven that the "Thug Life" can get you to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, DC. .....
What does this even mean? Whether one likes the president or not, he is not what I would classify as a thug. He is Harvard educated, married with two kids and seems to have his personal life in order.
I agree, billybob, like him or not he is the President, and should not be called a thug. Some people have no class. Have some class, Fletch.
Harvard grad? Nobody has seen any of his credentials! Read some of his books and tell yourself if you want this man to do the USA in from the inside. Wait 'til he gets another term and starts using his "executive privileges", i.e., gun control, etc., his nominations to the Supreme Court and most of all his ability to make the office of president more than two terms. Mark my word! It's your future; mine is nearly over.
Some people go to far! The President of the United States is not a thug. We get it! You don't want him there. There has been a lot of Presidents I didn't want at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., but I've never shown that level of disrespect.
Yeah, what I said above Lynn227...LOL
I miss coach. :(....
Where is Coach?
I think that da corch, BSR and BVR are trying to think of a new screen name because they are akll the same person....LOL
Yeah, Bulldawg we haven't heard from BSR (FKA Da Corch) lately. I think you are right. He is signing up for another email account so he can come in as a different name.
