ALBANY, Ga. — About 2 a.m. Friday, armed robbers kicked in the front door at a 1252 Nixon Drive residence and one put a handgun to the resident’s head, demanding money, according to a Dougherty County Police Department report.

Police responded and caught two suspects, Janice Lee Jenkins and Tyrone Sutton Jr., hiding down the street from the crime scene, said police Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick. They were in a storage shed and had left an unidentified vehicle on the street, he added.

“(Derrick Lavar) Bush wasn’t caught,” Kirkpatrick said. “He is the one with the gun and should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who knows where he is should call DCPD or Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers can offer a reward.” Bush’s last known address is 1207 Steven Lane in Albany, officials said.

According to Kirkpatrick, robbery victim James Chastain managed to pull out his cell phone and call 911 during the attack. The gunman threatened to kill Chastain and grabbed the phone to disconnect the call.

The three robbers then ran with the phone and no money was stolen, Kirkpatrick said. “He didn’t have any money to give them.”

Jenkins and Sutton are in Dougherty County Jail. Kirkpatrick ran down a long list of charges against the two — armed robbery, burglary, theft by taking, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm while committing a felony and interfering with a 911 emergency call.

“Sutton was also found to have cocaine in his possession at the jail. He is charged with possession,” Kirkpatrick said. “He is also charged with crossing the guard line with contraband on his person.”

Police would like anyone with any knowledge of Bush’s whereabouts to call them at (229) 430-6600 or Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477). The Spanish language APD-COP Tip Line is (229) 434-2677.

Crime Stoppers is an anonymous tipline. People with information could become eligible for cash rewards.
