.......and never the twain shall meet..............but I told my room mate before the Democrat National Convention that I should watch it but realized it would just be parading and justifying and advocating every evil thing imaginable. So I didn't.

These are all vast political statements made up by overpaid government bureaucrats. The Obama vs Romney is business as usual. Obama is a made up figurehead and we no nothing about him that is the truth. He is a slick liar that people are hungry to believe. Romney is as you see him he is the all around good guy. He has the talent to make money and that is the one thing that is being held against him. Obama and his family have the talent to spent money other folks money. Read some of Thomas Sowell's writings he says it alot better than I can. As far as wealthy goes, then Obama is too, except he got his off the government and does not give anything back. Romney gave $4 million to charity, what did O give except lies.

Romney is as slick as a snakeoil salesman...

Yeah, and the country needs two shots of Romney "snakeoil" immediately. ... It's the only thing to cure an Barak Hussein hangover!! .... I'll take three!

Commonsense in Higher Education. JD

Is this man truly a genius?

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

  1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

  2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

  3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

  4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

  5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

USTAKNOW - excellent, thanks for sharing the FACTS! Now if we can just get the other half to understand this and get them to remove their Obama blinders.

Lord knows that is older than Obama or Romney. It has many forms but the one I liked best was the NYC Sanatation worker explaining it to his Hippie Daughter attending Columbia.

Fascinating. At what college did this take place? When?

ustaknow 1 year, 6 months ago

three points before debate that maybe all will take into consideration.

Number 1) income for middle class increased 18% under George Bush and it has shrunk 8% under Obama

number 2 ) Wealth redistribution is responsible for the massive debt. It is the reason the housing collapse happened (the gov backed those 100% loans to people with bad credit ) it is the reason we have a student debt bubble right now ( the gov is guaranteeing those loans)

3 ) My understanding is that the unfunded federal public pensions consume almost 1trillion a year- this is almost 1/2 of all federal tax dollars taken in by our fed gov.

So tax cuts helped grow middle class and also produced more revenue for fed gov than during any other period but our gov mismanaged those dollars by redistribution.

revolutionnow 1 year, 6 months ago

Good points , but let's add term limitations. No more career politicians who pass legislation to benefit themselves , not their constituents. Also , no tax breaks for corporations who outsource their manufacturing offshore. I know what people will say, that goods will cost more, but if we have more good paying domestic jobs , we might not mind paying more. Kind of like all those who spend extra money on european cars.

As they say you can't fix stupid, ustaknow brought up a pretty good example, but the democrats and people like BSR have one track minds. Information comes in, but they get nothing out of it. It's like sticking a horse's head in the water but not being able to convince it to drink. They are drunk on the Obama kool-aid and they will vote for him for two reasons 1) He's black 2) They are out for that free money. Obama could make speeches that he was going to blow up the United States but it would not matter as they would still vote for him.

America is one of the few western civilized nations that still has debates about healthcare, gay rights and religion. Healthcare should be universal and given to every US citizen or permanent resident. The Supreme Court ruled in Reynolds vs. United States (1879!) that religion should stay out of government. (Many people of color disagree with this so clearly you have no clue). If religion were to get into our government, it would create a theocracy just like Iran and Saudi Arabia are today. The Republican Party is attacking women's rights. Before the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obamacare) women were a pre-existing medical condition, they could be denied coverage for pretty much anything, and they were charged 50% more than men. Abortion, as much of a touchy subject as it is cannot be ignored. The Republican Party wants to go back to the days before Roe vs. Wade where abortions were done by unqualified "doctors" and in very dangerous conditions. The truth is, people will get them and I hope we agree that if someone is going to do something anyway, that it might as well be done safely. As for education, the Republicans have repeatedly cut and cut the budget for public education. They have advocated the No Child Left Behind Act which taught students to take a test and the program was pretty much unfunded. 25% of people do not graduate high school, 30% who do not go right into college, and 43% of people who start college will not graduate within 6 years. Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Ireland, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom all have higher college graduation rates than the United States. This is an outrage! How can we expect to maintain superpower status without having an educated population. The world and technology is getting very sophisticated and our people should too. Only President Obama supports increasing Pell Grants, funding for public education and putting a cap on colleges who continue to raise and raise tuition.

Really hotdog? As a woman, I am not a pre-existing condition, i did not and have not paid 50% more than my husband, I did pay maybe 15% more, but that was due to possible pregnancies. I have never been denied coverage on any procedures. I will vote Republican, I shouldn't have to pay for anyones irresponsible behavior i.e. birthcontrol pills, abortion. I agree that teachers are only teaching to pass a test, but NoChild Left Behind was an attempt by Bush to work with the Democrats and if I am not mistaken, endorsed by Teddy Kennedy. If teachers were allowed to actually teach instead of having to meet state mandates, then our scores would go up. Parents have responsibilites in their child's education too. Too much "education " money goes for fluff, not books, teacher salaries but for non essentials. Look at the private schools and see how they educate students at a much lower cost per student. BTW I am in the middle class, pay more than my "fair share" of taxes and I am tired of supporting those who will not work, but think they are entitiled to my money (and Social Security is not an entitlement - I, my parents, your parents paid into this program, and it was the Democrats that voted to take the money and put in IOUs)

"The truth is, people will get them and I hope we agree that if someone is going to do something anyway, that it might as well be done safely". So, are you for the legalization of all drugs? I mean, all of the laws we have and people still do them.....might as well set up drug houses so they can be done safely. who's paying for the increase in pell grants? those aren't loans, so the govt doesn't get the money back. Dems think clinton was a great president, yet he had few regluations AND he was able to work with repubs in congress. he didn't have to invoke executive privelege. you think he reigned in wall street, yet he's not against taking millions in donations from them. i wouldn't be bragging about the unemployment rate "dropped" to 8.2! and since you brought up the auto bailouts......you do know that bush started them, right? obumma just increased them without seeing if bush's would work (gotta make those union buddies happy, right). in all reality, no matter what anyone says on this online squawkbox, nobody's going to change their mind on who they're going to vote for. you got your man and think what he's doing is right. i have my choice and like his plans better. I just can't wait for Nov. 6th so all of this bickering can end and we can move on to complaining about our new president.

As for the economy the Republican Party wants to take America back to the failed policies of the past. Tax cuts for the wealthy, burden on the middle class and letting Wall Street and Corporations run free. Do we want a repeat of 2008? I don't think so. President Barack Obama has reigned in Wall Street, regulated them, and made sure the common man is protected from their greed. Their only responsibility is to the shareholders, they don't care how they do it. And no one can ignore that the unemployment rate has dropped to 8.2%, 2.6million jobs have been created, and that Detroit is back as the world’s number 1 car producer. These are the results of the bailouts, which saved America and the Republicans vehemently opposed! It is also ironic that the Republicans who are for free markets and low government intervention in business are saying the President should do something about gas prices. If they are against government intervention shouldn't they let the market decide the price? The POTUS has tried over and over to compromise with a party whose favorite word is "NO" to everything. He tried to compromise on healthcare and ONLY Senator Olympia Snow (R-ME) worked with the Democrats and many of her amendments ARE in the bill. Considering the circumstances he has done FANTASTIC job of bringing the country back on track. I will be fair and say that on some things he is dead wrong (immigration and guns for example) but he has done all he can and he is trying to move the country forward and keep it great while fighting a party that wants to bring it back to 1900. On november 6th we have the power to decide: Where do we want to go? Do we want the next century to be another American Century? Or, Do we want it to be known as the Century of American Regression? This is why they vote for Obama, not the simplistic idiotic GOB reasons you stated in your post. You are right, you cant fix stupid, for you would have been fixed by now.

@ hotdog, Obama has a net job loss record. this means for every job he claims to have created more have been lost.

As to the schools, America ranks near the low end of all grade curves, yet we have the highest funding of any industrialized nation in the world. We need to fire so many under performing teachers but unions have made it almost impossible to get rid of the bad teachers. We need to send kids to charter schools and abolish public sector unions.

Nothing you said is anything other than a party line talking point. Wealth Redistribution has left our country 16 trillion in debt and two wars alone did not cause this so please do not go there. We give money to other countries ( wealth redistribution ) to build their infrastructure while ours crumbles.

Politicians on both sides of the aisle are responsible for wealth redistribution - so please don't think i am blaming it all on Obama but he is the biggest advocate for it by far.

nothing wrong with loaning kids money to go to school but there is no accountability, It is a well known fact that you can go apply for a pell grant and after you get it drop out of school. There goes 3-5k of your tax dollars.

A better idea may be to agree to pay for school as they turn in grade of B or better

2

hotdog 1 year, 6 months ago

@usataknow-I understand your points and they are quite valid ones....it is good to have a conversation with someone who does not resort into name calling when they disagree.....I am not an advocate of wealth redistribution but I am in favor of equal taxation and I strongly disagree with the trickle down policies many Republicans seem to advocate...America is also the only country that tries to educate EVERYONE.....and I do agree we have some underperforming teachers but you get what you pay for....Teachers are grossly underpaid....also education begins at home, and we have underperforming parents who are expecting teachers to raise their children....I do agree their should be more responsibility/accountability in our student loan process, yet I feel many colleges raise their fees annually because they can not because they have to....I think your point about a B or better would be used to prevent/dissuade many people from going to college who otherwise without some form of assistance simply could not afford to go or continue to go....what a person has learned does not always translate into grades....

1

USTPC 1 year, 6 months ago

The problem with equal taxation is that it penalizes the poor. Example: Set a flat rate of 10%...to someone making $20,000 that is $2,000, to someone making $1 million that is $100,000...who is going to be hurt more? The better solution is to have an escalating tax rate as your income gets higher without the allowance of deductions. Example: 5% for anyone making less than $30k, 10% for anyone making $31k to $50k, 15% for $51k to $75k, etc until it is capped at say 35% for anyone making $1 million or more. (% are examples, not recommendations)

As far as the wealthy not paying their fair share...how much is fair? Based on a study done in 2009, the top 20% of earners brought in an income about 10 times that of the bottom 20% of earners. However, they paid about 221 times as much in taxes. The top one percent of earners made about 50 times as much money as the bottom quintile in 2009, but paid about 1,500 times as much in taxes.

Although I do agree the tax system is favorable to the wealthy because of the deductions they get that lower income people do not get and some if not all of those allowable deductions should be eliminated, but how much is enough? 70%? 75%? 80%? Everything but $50k?

The biggest issue in my mind is that companies are not penalized for sending jobs overseas. They get their product made for low wages compared to the US and the upper wage earners reap the benefits with big bonuses. Solution......Tax the sales (not income, sales) of any overseas made products 50%. That eliminates the cheap labor and it will actually be cheaper to keep your plants open in the US versus sending the jobs overseas. That would eliminate the unemployment issue as well because millions and millions of jobs would be moved back to the US.

whodat 1 year, 6 months ago

good points, good ideas. and may I add, while CEOs are being paid obscene bonuses, their companies are paying the rank and file the minimum wage. Increase the minimum wage, restore the middle class. The federal minimum wage was set at $7.25 on July 24, 2009. In the 3 years since, the Consumer Price Index rose 2.7, 1.5, and 3.0.

1

Sister_Ruby 1 year, 6 months ago

Which would have the most detrimental impact on cost of goods? Giving a CEO a million dollar bonus or giving the minimum wage worker a $1 an hour increase? Right, the minimum wage increase. Y'all are just willfully stupid and happily stupid and proudly stupid.

ustaknow The five sentences you referred to is a real life "quote" by the late great Pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Adrian Rogers. He served three (3) times as President of the Southern Baptist Convention. A great evangelist. Google him. He had seen a lot in his time.
Also said "The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.”. We have become a society of "Take from you & give to me" -- It's all about me!!! God Bless America

Says WHO? WHY? NO MATTER THEIR BEHAVIOR, THIER EATING HABITS, THEIR SMOKING HABITS, THEIR USE OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES, THEIR LEVEL OF EXCERCISE AND CONTRIBUTION TO THEIR OWN HEALTH?

As my good friend said "I can tell by your lips you been eatin' tater chips....sardines and pork and beans!!"

A crock of CRAP!

How are you going to "give" free healthcare to all citizens? Are you going to "give" a free education to all doctors so that they are obligated to give the free heathcare?

Think.
