ALBANY -- Maria W. Shotts, 85, of Albany, Ga., died at home Thursday, September 27, 2012. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 2, 2012, 7:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern. Rev. Stephen Ponzer officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

Maria moved to Albany last year to be close to her family. Mrs. Shotts was born in Berlin, Germany on August 7, 1927 and lived most of her life in Ludlow, MA. Maria graduated in Berlin from the Dressmaking and Design School and came to

America after marrying Daniel M. Shotts, Jr., USAF, of Pennsylvania. They were stationed in Arizona, Idaho and in Massachusetts where they settled and raised their children. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen and was exceptionally proud to be an American.

Maria was active in the Girl Scouts and coordinated their cookie sales for over 25 years and was awarded the Juliette Lowe award for her outstanding service as well as the Gold pin for being a member of GSA for 55 years, "Tiger" was a beloved swim instructor at the Girl Scout Camp Watchoge.

She taught swimming and lifeguard skills to many of the local townspeople at the Boys and Girls Club of America. Mrs. Shotts was a lunch mother at East Street School and a crossing guard for many years.

Maria was active in the Ludlow Elks Lodge #2448, which was founded by her late husband, and in the Ludlow Emblem Club where she was Past President, District Deputy and Treasurer.

A communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church (since 1956) she taught CCD and worked on the annual Catholic Charities and Fellowship Appreciation.

Mrs. Shotts was predeceased by her husband of forty years, Daniel M. Shotts, Jr. She is survived by her daughters and their families: Wm. David and Daniela Taylor of Leesburg, GA; Franklyn and Carol Lindo of Jamaica; and grandson and his wife, Daniel and Victoria Taylor of Memphis, TN will sorely miss her as well as her beloved companion, Jackie.
