Chief James Carswell talks to city commissioners about the department's new aerial truck.
ALBANY, Ga. — Albany Fire Chief James Carswell unveiled the department's newest aerial truck Tuesday to the city commission.
The truck is the latest piece of firefighting technology and has just come off the line from a Wisconsin plant where it was built, Carswell said.
But all of that comes at a price. The brand new truck cost more than $997,000, Carswell said, making it one of the most expensive pieces of equipment in the city's fleet.
The truck was paid for using special local option sales tax dollars.
The truck will allow the department to rotate a 1996 aerial truck into reserve status, and sell the 1986 model that is currently in reserve.
