LOCAL PREP ROUNDUP: Deerfield golf beats rival Southland

ALBANY — The Deerfield-Windsor golf team defeated Soutland in Americus on Tuesday in a GISA Region 3-AAA match.

The Knights shot a 332 and Southland finished the day at 394. Ethan Shellhaas and John Leach eached fired 82s to lead DWS and Wilson Joiner shot an 83. Charlie Ellis and John Cole shot 85s for the Knights. Southland was led by Michael Ansley, who shot a 94.

DWS is now 7-1.

Soccer

DWS GIRLS SOCCER 11, SOUTHLAND 1: The DWS girls had an easy time on Tuesday to stay perfect (6-0) in GISA Region 3-AAA play and are now 11-2 overall.

Casey Kincheloe scored four goals and Maggie Greene scored twice for the Lady Knights. Kendyll Freeman, Rachel Sulivan, Jordan Lane, Parker Morgan and Cheyenne Colvin scored a goal each. DWS is at home on Thursday against Brookwood. The girls play at 5 p.m.

SHERWOOD GIRLS SOCCER 8, CALVARY CHRISTIAN 0: Hannah Thompson recorded her 16th shutout of the season, and Katelyn Cuff (four) and Kylee (three) combined to score seven goals for the Lady Eagles, who are now 16-3-1. Christina Charles scored the other goal. SCA will host Terrell Academy at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

WESTOVER GIRLS SOCCER 10, AMERICUS-SUMTER 0: Hope Johnson recorded her 13th shoiutout of the season and also scored a goal and had an assist as Westover improved to 13-2 overall and 12-1 in Region 1-AAAA play.

Jasmine Young scored three goals and Tan Young scored twice. Katy Brown had three assists and a goal, and Carley Turner, Anisa Fudge and Makayla Fryson all scored for Westover. Abby Estrada had two assists.

Baseball

WORTH BASEBALL 14, MONROE 1: Cody Reddell pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight in the five innings game. he faced only 18 batters, and Jonathan Cirillo went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Keith Apperson went 2-for4 with three RBI to lead Worth.

TERRELL ACADEMY 11, SHERWOOD 0, (5): Josh Brunswick (4 IP) and Jordan McDaniels recorded a five-inning no-hitter Tuesday to propel the Eagles of Dawson (9-3, 4-0) past the Eagles of Albany — and to the only unbeaten region record in GISA 3-AA.

Josh Wardrip was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI, Logan Duckworth was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI and Brunswick was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Terrell, which has gone through the first half of the region schedule unbeaten returns to action Friday at SGA.

DEERFIELD 8, CALVARY 0: The Knights got a one-hitter from Austin Murphy (7 IP, 5Ks) and also got big days at the plate from Kh’Ron McClain (2-for-3, 2B, 3B, 2R, 2 RBI), Harris Webb (2B), Davis Hines (2B, 2 RBI), Coleman Butler (3-for-4, RBI) and Sam Shellhaas (2B, RBI).

The win puts DWS at 9-6 overall and 3-1 in region with a huge game upcoming Friday at Brookwood, which is also tied for first place in the region with DWS and Westfield.

CAIRO BASEBALL 3, DOUGHERTY 0: Dougherty’s Kelvin Milnor went the distance and suffered a tough loss after giving up only six hits and striking out 10 against Cairo, the No. 2 team in Region 1-AAAA. He did not allow an earned run. Cairo broke a scoreless tie on two Dougherty errors in the top of the sixth and added two unearned runs in the seventh on two more Dougherty errors. Milner went 1-for 3 and Dallas Sutton went 1-for-3 for Dougherty, which is now 0-7 in the region and 2-8 overall.
