Squawk of the Day 12 April 2013

It appears all the budget cuts will fall on the shoulders of the elderly. Sounds like a plan that falls in line with Obama Care, push all the elderly out early thus saving a ton of money. The U.S. is already 12th in longevity. No reason to keep the costly old folks around any longer. None of them will vote for Obama.

Gotta make sure they protect his voting base. You won't see no cuts on welfare, food stamps or cell phones. 2 things Obama hates 1-The elderly 2 - The working class. Every move he makes seems to be targeted against those two groups. but for the lazy bums that don't want to work Obama has 4 words for them "I got yo back"

Why is the City Manager and Commissioners not holding the Chief of Police responsible for crime in Albany. Chief Proctor is lost in fighting crime. He is Lott's choice over so many great law enforcement professionals. Manager Taylor is shielding him. Chief Proctor should be fired.

The city of Albany needs to hire Chief Roberson Brown as Chief of Police and this guy has strong stance against crime and know how to fight crime. Proven record. We need to get tough on criminals in Albany, our future depends on it. Why is Chief Proctor getting a free ride from this administration. Maybe we should all arm ourselves and take the law into our own hands. We need help in fighting crime in Albany. Someone is killed or shot every week in this city. One day it may hit home to our so call leaders in order for them to take action. Do not wait to be a victim, fight back by hiring a great police leader, not someone who is passive and laid back or don;t have a clue on crime prevention.....Yes I said it.....Hold department heads accountable or get ride of them if they cannot do the job they were hired to do.

JUST FYI: Three murders in four months is hardly "someone getting shot or killed every week." Moultrie has had more killings that Albany.

whattheheck 1 year, 5 months ago

Probably very true JD but the "shoot 'em up" nature of these murders is not to be taken lightly by comparing with another city with more. Gang shootings, drive by shootings, and the like don't make people feel anywhere close to safe in the Good Life or elsewhere for matter..

J.D._Sumner 1 year, 5 months ago

Have you noticed that the vast majority of violent crime in this city, and in most cities, is among people who know each other? I can't tell you the last time a random person was killed during an act of crime...Maybe Walter Phelps?

You're not going to have a city of 90,000 people without some level of crime. People just need to keep it in perspective. And you aren't going to have a city with our poverty and educational problems without things like gangs.

So, other than commenting about it on a website, what are we doing to fix it?

0

whattheheck 1 year, 5 months ago

Nothing JD just as we do with any other problem in Albany. But on the subject of poverty, are we creating more poverty, gangs, and crime through our copious subsidized housing and social support system? Is there an incentive become educated and productive citizens when so much is provided to so many for so little effort? Perhaps we are growing our own poverty and the cime etc that seems to follow it.

Proctor has done a better job than the last two jokers we had as police chief. It's hard to get good police officers when the pay is so low. They would rather use that money to buy arches, signs and a brand new bus depot.

Abytaxpayer 1 year, 5 months ago

Sally you are so right Proctor has moved Albany forward. There should be better support from the city commissioners for him and APD

0

Abytaxpayer 1 year, 5 months ago

JDthat just proves Albany's Thugs are too lazy to practice. Compare number of shots fired in Albany and Moultrie.

"People just need to keep it in perspective". Sounds all warm and fuzzy till it is someone you know who gets shot at.

Excuses are EASY making progress takes work!

Yes, but the old folks will survive and live to vote out the Democrats. I admit, doctors are doing unnecessary tests many times that are not needed because they can. My mother passed a couple of years ago and many thousands of dollars were spent that would have done no good. If you spend your life as a smoker, then you will pay the piper sometime. 75 years ago medicine could not do enough, now they can do too much. I do not want all of the means doctors have if I no longer have the quality of life. But if there is a means that will work and help the older people have better lives, then I am all for that.

"None of them will vote for Obama." No one will ever vote for Obama. Senior citizens have no home either in the Democratic or Republican party. When all the questions were being put to the GOP candidates about domestic, Medicare and Social Security "entitlements", Ron Paul is the only candidate to stand his ground. His position was clear - before we start cutting at home, let's see what we save by cutting abroad and ending the extravagant military adventurism. Another position Paul emphasized was developing and implement a comprehensive energy using American petroleum resources which he proved would save money. Of course, the choir and peanut gallery ran off with Obi Wan and you know the rest of the story.

Oh but the people looking for the 10 cent frebies voted for him and will again, but we the people that has supported this country will be gone and the King will have broken this country then where will they be. He and his family will still have the best and they will have the least. Good morning to all and may God Bless

What would he run for, Mayor of Albany? He's been elected and re-elected the 22nd amendment prevents re-election beyond a second 4 year term. It's unfortunate they didn't include the House and the Senate in that rule.

Social Security and Medicare have been a bad investment for tax paying citizens. If we had put that money into any type of private investment over 35 to 40 years we would be wealthy and that investment would have helped create wealth creating businesses of all types. Instead we have a fund depleted by politicians buying votes from non tax paying citizens and even non citizens. Misappropriation of funds is a crime in the private world. It is normal in the public world. My only question is...were they thieves before they were elected or did they mutate after the election.

...were they thieves before they were elected or did they mutate after the election.

I think they just get better with practice.

I am elderly and seldom read newspapers (get my news online at several sources) so am curious as to the Squawker's comments. How will the budget cuts affect me? I must admit my husband and I don't depend on SS as our only source of income so you must be referring to those who depend on only SS. And, yes I am one of the elderly old grouches who refuses to vote for a president, as I think they are all worthless, but that is not to say I don't go to the polls and vote....but only for those trying for a legislative seat and then the ones offered up are disgusting, self-serving morons. UGH!! And in reply to Eric's comment asking if they were born thieves...well Eric, it is pretty clear to me most of them were conceived anally for they all appear to be the biggest a**holes around. Just sayin'. Does that answer your question?

For those who were awe struck about Obama giving back 5% of his pay, consider this:

I know of a highly skilled person whose company shut down and is on unemployment. This person just recently had their compensation lowered by 10.7% due to sequestration. There are many wasteful programs, duplications in services, and poor priority decisions made by this administration. This current admin can not be trusted to do what is right for the voters.

agirl_25 1 year, 5 months ago

I know someone too, B4it, and she is now in the process of going to school (for another degree) plus she is benefiting from the many programs the state offers her because the business she worked at closed. Is not your friend being offered the same benefits?

I know many elderly people who voted for Obama. Now they regret it.

We tried to warn them, they wouldn't listen.

Back in the 1880's there was a notorious "robber baron" Jay Gould as I recall. One of his quotes go something like this. "The old, the poor, and the infirm should suffer their fate quietly, get out of our way and die." He was I believe eventually deported for bribing nearly half of congress, however the meaning of his quote is shared by many today by aborting the "unwanted", killing off the "sick" and the "old". History is merely repeating itself.

0

whattheheck 1 year, 5 months ago

Gee, that one sounds like Obama! But, Jay was not a real nice person, often attributed with the comment "I can hire one half of the working class to kill the other half". Anyway, Jay was a US citizen, a financier and railroad developer, and died in New York in 1892. Well known for bribes, now called "campaign contributions" by politicians who make comments like "We have to pass the bill to see what's in it". As you say, history is merely repeating itself.

There was a stink too, when a former Colorado governor suggested the same....in the 1990's I believe so the idea is always around.

Anyone who is not mainstream is looked upon as a threat by this administration. Older white folks are seemingly looked upon as Uncle Tom racist. We might as well have voted Spike Lee into office. With a Chi town slickster like Obama, you had better be watching his hands, and not his smiling face on TV.

alleebrin 1 year, 5 months ago

And remember what Hitler did to the people of Eastern Europe - same modus operandi with Obummer! Young people, PLEASE WAKE UP!

0

B4it 1 year, 5 months ago

Sometimes I feel that many of the shallow-minded, uninformed and prejudiced voters are just like the people being told about the oncoming flood when Noah built the ark. They just did not want to listen to the truth! Now many of these voters regret supporting Obama when it is their life and finances that are being impacted.

Sally_O 1 year, 5 months ago

You would have thought they would have learned from the 1st 4 years.

trudy2 1 year, 5 months ago

I had no idea that the president was going to GAS young people. Where did you hear or read that ?

If you will understand that King Obama is building an internal law enforcement agency, one that has purchased several hundred MRAP vehicles, 1.5 BILLION rounds of ammunition, thousands of assault rifles, you would feel the presence of the anti Christ in our midst. King Obama is trying to take over the U. S as dictator and is going to take out any one in his path that poses a threat to this objective.
