ALBANY -- Willie Ella (Lila) Hardee Hemmings, 88, passed away April 11, 2013 in Albany, GA.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 14, 2013, 2:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home with Reverend Garrett Andrew and Walter Blankenship officiating. Visitation will be held at Kimbrell-Stern one hour prior to the service (1:00 PM). A private interment will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Crown Hill Mausoleum Chapel.
Mrs. Hemmings was born in Calhoun County on December 14, 1924. A self-taught cake artist, Mrs. Hemmings baked and designed wedding cakes and birthday cakes for the community and ran a successful wedding catering business for the majority of her adult life. She retired from First United Methodist Church as a former church hostess. Lila loved deeply and instilled a strong foundation of faith, family, worth, connectedness, and belonging.
Willie Ella is preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and Lura McDonald Adams; one brother Louis Adams, and two grandsons, Scott Hardee and William Mark Blankenship. She was married to Ben Hardee for 32 years until his death in 1979.
Willie Ella is survived by her husband of 18 years, Robert William Hemmings of Albany; sons Craig Hardee (Carla Smith), Merv Hardee (Diane); daughter Elaine H. Blankenship (Walter); stepson Scott Hemmings (Jackie), stepdaughter Debbie Smith, six grandchildren Travis Hardee, Tracie H. Dent (Jay), Joel Hardee (Karen) of Lawrenceville, Molly H. Wallis (T.J.) of Valdosta, Sgt. John Michael Blankenship, U.S. Army 1st SFG, Fort Lewis, WA, Abby Rebekah Blankenship of Chicago, IL., and four great-grandchildren, Blakelee, Makenzie, Max, and Fin. She is also survived by three brothers, V. R. Adams, Curtis Adams (Betty Jo), both of Calhoun County, Tony Adams (Sue) of Jasper, GA, sister-in-law, Jewell Adams and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Willson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA, 31707.
