Second auditions set for ‘Forbidden Planet’

ALBANY — Theatre Albany will conduct a second round of auditions for the rock musical “Return to the Forbidden Planet” at 7 p.m. Monday at the theater, 514 Pine Ave.

Based on the sci-fi classic, “Forbidden Planet,” which, in turn, used the basic plot of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” this award-winning musical’s score is comprised of a host of rock and role classics, including “Great Balls of Fire,” “Only the Lonely,” “Young Girl,” “Gloria,” “Shake Rattle and Roll,” “Born to Be Wild.”

Director Mark Costello, Musical Director Steve Scott and Choreographer Samantha Helton are looking to cast seven men (two adults; five ages 16 to late 20s) and four women (ages 16 to late 20s). Those interested in auditioning should prepare a song to sing -- something that shows off the voice -- and bring either the sheet music or a CD. An accompanist will be provided. Rehearsals are set to begin in April 29 with performances scheduled for June 7-16. Contact the theater at (229) 439-7193.
