BARNESVILLE — Darton starter John Harman picked up his sixth win of the season Tuesday, leading the Cavs to a 4-2 victory against Gordon College.

With the win, the No. 13 nationally-ranked Cavs (32-8, 17-4) stayed in a tie for first place in the Region XVII standings with Georgia Perimeter.

Harman (6-1) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed seven hits and struck out three, while Cordele native Davis Adkins allowed one hit in the ninth inning but got his fifth save of the season.

Kody Adams hit a solo home run in the third inning and finished 2-for-5 at the plate, while Ferrell was 2-for-3.

The Cavs will host Gordon Friday at 6 p.m.


Higgerson, Carlisle pitch Lady Cavs past Georgia Military

MILLEDGEVILLE — Darton pitchers Jostlyn Higgerson and Savannah Carlisle combined to allow just three hits in a two-game sweep of Georgia Military on Tuesday, keeping the Lady Cavs' hopes of a regular-season Region XVII title alive.

Darton (33-12, 11-3) is now a game back of Georgia Perimeter in the region standings with four games remaining — including a doubleheader Saturday in Dunwoody against the Lady Jaguars.

Higgerson allowed two hits and struck out nine in a 9-1 Darton win in Tuesday's opener, while Carlisle allowed one hit in five innings and struck out six in an 11-0 win in the nightcap.

Darton's top hitters in the first game were Melissa Dearth (3-for-5, 2B, RBI), Bree Wells (2-for-4), Kelsey Swinson (2-for-4, RBI) and Heather Sexton (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B).

Carlisle hit a two-out grand slam in the first inning of the second game, while Chelsea Showers (2-for-3, 2 2B), Kelsea Ogletree (2-for-2, 3 RBI, 2B) and Wells (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2B) also had good games at the plate in the nightcap.


DWS’ Kincheloe gets into record books

ALBANY — Reigning Herald Player of the Year Casey Kincheloe scored four goals in Deerfield’s 10-0 win against Westfield, becoming the second girls soccer player in school history to score 100 career goals.

The senior now has 102 and is closing in on Callie Hughey’s school record of 112 with one regular season and the postseason remaining.

Also scoring for the DWS girls were Rachel Sullivan with three, Haley Kincheloe with two and Bailey Weed with one.

The Lady Knights (13-3) play again Friday at Darton State against rival Sherwood.

DWS BOYS 4, WESTFIELD 1: Andrew Sullivan scored twice to lead the Knights, while Reynolds Langstaff an Spencer Martin each scored once.

DWS BASEBALL FALLS TO TIFTAREA: Deerfield-Windsor lost a chance to move into first place in the GISA Region 3-AAA race on Tuesday night, falling to Tiftarea, 5-2. Tiftarea now leads the region with a 5-1 record, while DWS is 4-2 and 10-7 overall.

Harris Webb, who will make a commitment to Georgia today, led the Knights at the plate. Webb went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and also scored a run. Coleman Butler went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Austin Murphy took the loss. He went 3 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits while striking out three.

The Knights play at Southland in a key region game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

WORTH COUNTY BASEBALL 11, ALBANY HIGH 1: Jake Jones went the distance in the mercy-rule five-inning game, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four. Jones also went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs. Quentavious Sweney went 3-for-3, scored a run and drove in three runs for Worth, and Cody Reddell went 1-for-4, and scored twice.
