Volunteers sought for area cleanup

ALBANY, Ga. — Ward one commissioner Jon Howard and Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful are seeking volunteers to join them in a “neighborhood celebration” and a community trash pickup.

“We want to keep the scene clean by removing all unused appliances, unwanted grass, leaves old tires and anything in your yard that you’ve put off throwing away,” Howard said in a recent press release. According to Howard, the City of Albany has agreed to collect, free of charge through the end of April, additional refuse placed alongside regular dumpsters.

In addition, Howard is asking neighborhood volunteers to meet at 2500 Sylvester Road for a litter pickup at 9 a.m. Saturday. Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful will furnish gloves and trash bags for the even, Howard said.

“When you look at our community, you want to see a clean and beautiful one,” Howard said. “It’s to everyone’s advantage to keep it that way. Tourists and industry aren’t looking for dirty cities to come to.”
