Former President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to teach Sunday School this Sunday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.


Rose Carter will be guest speaker at 10:30 a.m. Sunday for the Women’s Missionary Society of Hines Memorial Christian Methodist Church. Carter is first lady of the Sixth Episcopal District (Georgia) of Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where her husband, Bishop Kenneth W. Carter, is presiding prelate. The church is located at 408 N. Madison St.

The deacon ministry of New Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church will host a “Coke and a Smile” event from noon until 4 p.m. on May 4. The church will be giving away soft drinks and church literature in the neighborhood. The church is located at 620 Zachary Ave.

Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Oakfield will host the Glory Bound Gospel Singers at 5 p.m. on June 2. Guests will include Gracie Leonard and the Leonard Brothers of Albany, Gospel Precision of Albany, Inspirational Gospel Singers of Cordele, Tommy Barber and the Discipleaires of Ashburn and Men of Favor of Cordele.

The Church of the Living Word will host its 17th Appreciation Service at 11 a.m. Saturday. Guest speaker will be Dr. Theodis Drake, pastor of Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Albany. The program is open to the public. The church is located at 930 Gordon Ave.

New Mt. Holder Baptist Church will celebrate its 142 church anniversary and the 18th anniversary of Bishop Johnny L. Gardner, pastor, and first lady Mary Gardner. The celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. on May 6 and will continue each night at the same time through May 10.
