Miller County Hospital seeking nurses

COLQUITT, Ga. -- Miller County Hospital, facing a problem common to many health care facilities in small communities, is looking for a few good nurses.

The 25-bed hospital in Colquitt hopes to fill those slots on Aug. 15 when the Georgia Department of Labor will conduct a job fair seeking registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants.

Carie Spence, human resources director for Miller County Hospital, said the Miller County Hospital Authority is offering a bonus for the RNs and CNAs in an attempt to secure qualified applicants.

Spence and other hospital officials will be at the Bainbridge Career Center on Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to recruit the nursing personnel.

Spence said the hospital has slightly more than 100 employees. However, the Hospital Authority employs about 300 workers to man the hospital, Miller County Nursing Home, Miller Medical Clinic in Colquitt, Calhoun Nursing Home and the R.E. Jennings Clinic in Arlington.

Spence said the medical facilities recruit personnel from a wide geographic area, with many employees commuting from Albany, Bainbridge, Cuthbert, Dothan, Ala., and other nearby communities.

Labor Department officials said all applicants must bring copies of their current license and resume, and be appropriately dressed for the interview. The career center is located at 310 S. Scott St. in Bainbridge.

"We're excited about having the Georgia Department of Labor helping us with this," Spence said.

Additional information can be obtained from the Bainbridge Career Center at (229) 248-2618.
