Albany eliminated from Dixie League World Series

LAUREL, Miss. — The magic finally ended Wednesday night for the Albany American All-Stars, who were eliminated in the 9-10 year-old Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in a 13-10 loss to South Carolina.

A win would have put Albany (3-2) into today’s championship series and given them a chance to give Georgia its first national title since Troup County won in 2009. Albany, trailing 13-4 heading into the last inning, mounted a comeback in the top of the sixth by scoring six runs but fell three runs short.

Rising star Denver Bryant, the only girl on Albany’s team and one of just two girls in the tournament, started the sixth inning with a home run but recorded the final out in the frame with a deep fly out to the center-field warning tracks.

Albany, which started the tournament with three straight wins, finished in fourth place in the 12-team field. Albany suffered its first loss of the tournament late Tuesday when it fell, 12-10, to host Laurel, Miss.
