ALBANY, Ga. -- The Dougherty County School System's finance and personnel committees met Tuesday in abbreviated sessions.
The Finance Committee heard a request from DCSS Police Chief Troy Conley for $14,000 to buy 25 bullet-proof vests for his officers and $86,000 to replace the department's portable radios. The committee approved sending out bids for the items.
The Personnel Committee also unanimously approved moving the filling of three new Race To The Top positions before the full board.
In discussion, system Executive Director of Finance and Operations Ken Dyer informed the committee that 14,326 students were in class on the second day of school.
"The numbers are always a little low earlier, but we look to be on track to reach or be above last year's numbers," Dyer said.
The next meeting of the DCSS full board will be Monday.
