ALBANY, Ga. -- Warrants have been taken against Zaybian Barber, 34, who Albany Police Department officials believe rammed a police cruiser with his car Tuesday, officials said Thursday.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, warrants have been issued Zaybian with reckless driving, driving while his license was suspended and obstruction of an officer.

The charges stem from a motor vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday evening. Police say APD Sgt. Denise Barnes sustained minor injuries when she attempted to make a routine traffic stop and the car she was stopping rammed into her cruiser.

Barnes was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released.

Banks said detectives have reviewed the incident and have determined that Barber's black Dodge Avenger struck the front right corner of Barnes' patrol vehicle during an attempt to flee. The driver abandoned the car on the 400 block of Wadkins Avenue and ran away, officials say.

The APD is requesting that anyone with information about Barber's whereabouts call (229) 436-TIPS or the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100. Barber is 6 feet tall and weighs about 199 pounds, officials say.
