DAWSON, Ga. -- John Tudor, a magician based out of Columbia, S.C., is set to bring a performance to the Main Street Theatre and Cultural Arts Center in downtown Dawson on Saturday.
The show, dubbed "Magic Theater," is expected to include "not just a show of tricks; but an exciting, interactive journey into the world of illusion and magical stories, from around the world and through the ages."
The show is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. and last about 70 minutes, said Rhonda Gordon, manager of the Main Street Theatre. A disappearing act, as well as illusion acts involving cards and butterflies may also be included in the show, she said.
"There is time afterward for him to talk to the kids," she said. "He pulls a rabbit out of a hat, and he lets them pet the rabbit."
As of Friday afternoon, there were 75 tickets up for grabs -- which means that half of the house had been sold out at that point. Since seating is assigned, attendees are asked to reserve tickets in advance by calling the theatre at (229) 995- 5329.
"If I'm not here, they can leave their name and number and I'll call them back," Gordon said. "They can buy tickets up until that day."
Getting him booked for the show was not an easy task. Judging from the public response so far, the effort to get him on the theatre's calendar is expected to be well worth it.
"We wanted to get him for awhile, but he's on the road a lot and we just couldn't work it out with our schedule and his," Gordon said. "I haven't seen the show, but I hear it's great.
"We are really pleased with the response. It is a great family event. Both kids and family will love it."
The Main Street Theatre is located at 152 N. Main St. Further information about the show can be obtained by calling the venue. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children under age 12.
