ALBANY — Another variation of the “Fireproof” plot device “The Love Dare” is set to be released next month, this time as a yearlong devotional for married couples.

Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick, the writers, producers and directors of the film “Fireproof” and authors of “The Love Dare,” are releasing “The Love Dare Day by Day: A Year of Devotion for Couples” on Sept. 1.

“You’re about to learn more about yourself and your marriage — some of it encouraging, some convicting,” Alex Kendrick said in a news release. “In either case, you gain a new view of where you are with your marriage and with God.”

“The Love Dare Day by Day” joins the “The Love Dare,” with nearly six million copies sold, as well as “The Love Dare for Parents” and “The Resolution for Men.” In the upcoming book, there are 52 biblical-based “dares,” one for each week, meant to challenge married partners to unconditional love along with daily devotions to amplify each dare’s scriptural base, officials with Lovell-Fairchild Communications say.

Each week’s “dare” ranges from focused prayer to specific ways spouses can build each other up.

“Our marriages reveal our need to grow and deal with our own issues and selfishness,” Stephen Kendrick said. “But if we are teachable, we can learn the single most important lesson in life — to love. One powerful union, our marriage, invites us to learn to love another imperfect person unconditionally. It’s wonderful, it’s difficult and it’s life-changing.”

Other features include 365 readings on aspects of genuine love, prayers spouses can pray for themselves and their partners, questions to spur creative thinking about their marriage, more than 100 “Go Deeper” sections for personal Bible study on marriage and love and a link to a free online marriage evaluation resource, officials say.

Along with the Kendrick brothers, Lawrence Kimbrough is also named as a contributor to the book. The padded hardback, being released by B&H Publishing Group, is roughly 400 pages in length and is listed at $15.99.

“Fireproof” was released on Sept. 26, 2008, as the third film to be produced by Sherwood Pictures, the movie-making arm of Sherwood Baptist Church. In “Fireproof,” a firefighter who is considering divorcing his wife is asked to read “The Love Dare” for 40 days and begins a journey of living out unconditional love to his spouse — rekindling their relationship.

“The Love Dare” was released in bookstores a short time later. The “Fireproof” movie went on to make a worldwide gross of $33.4 million, figures available from Box Office Mojo show.
