ALBANY — Three men have been arrested on charges of stealing lawn care equipment from a local company, police officials say.

According to Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick with the Dougherty County Police Department, James Madison Ryals, 28; William Harrison Swilley Jr., 31, and Tyler Prentice Tucker, 26, are accused of stealing about $2,200 in lawn care merchandise and equipment from Merry Acres Landscaping Co., 2724 Upland Court.

Kirkpatrick said police believe the suspects worked in pairs to jump a fence surrounding the Merry Acres property and to move the items to a vehicle. Among the items that police said were taken were grass trimmers and leaf blowers.

Officers had received a tip that some of the items were in Albany and Lee County pawn shops, Kirkpatrick said, which provided leads to the suspects. According to Kirkpatrick, trio admitted they had stolen the items to provide money for their drug habits.

The suspects were charged with criminal trespass, theft by taking, entering auto and theft by deception. They were taken to the Dougherty County Jail.
