Theatre Albany sets auditions for comedy

ALBANY, Ga. — Artistic Director Mark Costello has announced that Theatre Albany will conduct auditions for the comedy “Funny Money” by Ray Cooney at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 and 27 at the theater, 514 Pine Ave.

In the play, mild-mannered Henry accidentally picks up the wrong briefcase — one full of money — and decides to keep it. His inept attempts to extricate himself from an impossible situation lead to increasingly hysterical situations. Cooney is also the author of “It Runs in the Family,” “Run for Your Wife,” “Out of Order” and “Move Over Mrs. Markham,” all previously produced at Theatre Albany.

Costello is looking to cast six men and two women. The roles include Jean Perkins, a pretty but ordinary woman in her late 40s; Betty Johnson, a cheerful woman in her late 40s; Henry Perkins, an insignificant man in his early 50s; Bill, a middle-aged London taxi driver of spirit; Davenport, a sparse middle-aged man with a knowing glint in his eye; Vic Johnson, a brash man with feet of clay; Slater, a solicitous and kindly soul — until provoked, and a passer-by, a large man.

Rehearsals are set to begin in September with performances scheduled for Oct. 11-20. For further information, call the theater at (229) 439-7193.
