Structure fire ruled as arson

ALBANY — A fire which damaged an abandoned home in east Albany Monday has been ruled as arson, according to Sam Harris, investigator with the Albany Fire Department. Vagrants had been going in and out of the place since the owner died some two years ago, fire officials say.

“Someone poured about a pound of volatile (substance) on one side of the trailer,” Harris said. “The flames caused about $1,000 in damage.”

An investigation into who may have caused the damage to the home on the 1400 block of Westcliff Court is in progress, but Harris said it would be “several days” before fingerprint results are processed.
