NEW YORK — “Shoot Me,” a documentary-style short film that Victoria Henley, of Colquitt, starred in and co-produced with award-winning photographer Sammie Saxon, has been selected as a semifinalist by director/actor Ron Howard in his Project Imagination competition.
Henley, who appeared in the reality series “America’s Next Top Model,” based the film on some of her more unusual experiences in the modeling industry. She said the film, which is just under 10 minutes long, has received positive reviews and acclaim, including from the Wall Street Journal.
Canon, which is sponsoring Project Imagination Howard, participated in the final editing of the piece. Henley says that she and Saxon are currently in talks with Canon officials about possible future film-making and collaboration opportunities.
Henley said she “enjoyed drawing from the eccentric, unconventional and sometimes, cringe-inducing experiences” she’s had working in the modeling industry, which served as the premise for the film. She also said she took artistic pleasure in finding “unique, quirky ways to seamlessly incorporate the winning photos from Project Imagination’s photography division” into the film.
The Colquitt native teaches modeling workshops and was able to use some of her students as core supporting actors in the project.
Next up for Henley and Saxon is the New York Film Festival this fall, where they will learn whether “Shoot Me” made the cut to be featured nationally in theaters. The festival is set for Sept. 27-Oct. 13 at Lincoln Center.
Henley said she hoped to capitalize on the exposure from the “Shoot Me” project in pursuing other film-making opportunities. She said that those interested in being involved in any upcoming projects or in obtaining information about upcoming workshops can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
