LATE THURSDAY: Sherwood smashed by Trinity, 44-0, in 2013 opener

DUBLIN -- Otis Covington's first three words told the entire story.

"We got hammered," said the Sherwood coach.

The Eagles fell, 44-0, to Trinity Christian on Thursday night in their 2013 season opener.

Covington lamented the fact that Sherwood gave up 21 quick points on two blocked punts and a pick-6, but when he looked at the first-half stats, he saw his defense actually didn't play all that bad.

"We held them to 70 yards of total offense, so that was good," he said. "But overall, we were not very disciplined, and it showed."

A running clock was enacted by the middle of the third quarter.

Covington, who did not have final stats for his team, says all the Eagles can do from here is go back to the drawing board and prepare for Tiftarea next week.

"I thought we knew what it took to win a football game, but it looks like we still need to learn," he said. "Usually, teams improve dramatically from Week 1 to Week 2, and we hope a different team shows up next week against Tiftarea. That will be our focus going forward."
