North Jackson death now considered homicide

ALBANY — The discovery of a dead man last week in a North Jackson Street home is now being considered a homicide case.

Michael Gene Odell, 48, was found dead at 408 N. Jackson St. after neighbors complained about a foul odor coming from the residence. Once police entered the building, they found Odell dead in an advanced state of decomposition. Authorities estimated Odell had been deceased for at least 10 days.

Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said an autopsy showed Odell died of blunt force trauma to the body.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Albany Police Department are investigating the murder and no suspects have been named.
