ALBANY — An early morning fire over the weekend destroyed a chapel being built adjacent to the Martin Luther King Funeral Home at 1908 S. MLK Jr. Drive.
The Albany Fire Department responded to the fire call at 5:30 a.m. Sunday and extinguished the blaze, but the uncompleted structure was a total loss.
The building was to be 3,500 square feet. The loss was estimated at $150,000.
ALBANY POLICE: The APD responded to at least 60 incident from Saturday into the early morning hours of Sunday. The calls included, but were not limited to:
— Armed Robbery in the 1400 block of Whispering Pines Road.
— Criminal Trespass on the 1100 block of Julia Avenue; 500 block of Pinson Road; 700 block of West Oglethorpe Boulevard; 1600 block of West Third Avenue; 400 block of Odom Avenue and the 1500 block of Radium Springs Road.
— Shoplifting on the 2400 block of Dawson Road and the 200 block of Cordele Road.
— Wanted Person on the 600 block of Magnolia Street.
— Battery on the 1400 block of Whispering Pines Road; 500 block of Louis Avenue and 900 block of Holloway Ave.
— Entering Auto on the 300 block of Vintage Road.
— Burglary on the 700 block of Partridge Lane; 3200 Saddle Leaf Avenue; 2300 West Gordon Avenue and 900 block of West Second Avenue.
— Saggy Pants on the 2500 block of Nottingham Way and 600 block of Moultrie Road.
— Disorderly Conduct on the 600 block of North Westover Boulevard; 2500 block of Nottingham Way; 1300 block of McKinley; 400 block of Sands Drive; 200 block of Mock Road; 500 block of Don Cutler Road and 300 block of Cordele Road.
— Theft by Taking on the 900 block of Willow Wood Drive; 88 block of Second Avenue; 2200 block of North Slappey Boulevard and 300 block of Cordele Road.
— Dog Bite on the 2500 block of Cherokee Drive.
— Suspended License on the 2300 block of West Gordon
— Aggravated Assault on the 200 block of East Oglethorpe Boulevard and 700 Block of Indian Creek Drive.
— Vandalism on the 1000 block of Davidson Drive.
DOUGHERTY COUNTY POLICE: The Dougherty County Police Department responded to at least 39 calls Friday evening through early Monday morning. Incidents included:
— Animal investigation on the 1300 block of McKenzie Road;
— Theft on the 3300 block of Sylvester Road;
— Animal cruelty on the 1400 block of Nelms Road;
— Family violence on the 5900 block of Jenkins Road (Two reports), 4000 block of South Westover Boulevard; 4500 block of Seymore Lane and the 1400 block of Pippin Lane;
— Burglary on the 800 block of Ransome Acres;
— Mentally unstable person on the 4000 block of Moultrie Road.
ALBANY FIRE DEPARTMENT: The Albany Fire Department responded to 40 cals between Friday night and early Sunday morning. The calls included, but were not limited to:
— Power Line down on the 2000 block of Melrose and at Maple Street and Cromartie Beach Road.
— Vehicle Fire on the 800 block of Cedar Avenue
— Structure Fire on the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
— Cardiac Arrest Assit on the 400 block of Alice Avenue.
— Vehicle Accident on the 300 block of Radium Springs Road.
DOUGHERTY COUNTY EMS: EMS responded to a total of 46 calls on Friday. The majority of the 31 medical calls , but not limited to: Eight chest pains; three cardiac arrest calls; one respiratory issue call; one OB/Labor call; one seizure call and 14 various medical calls.
The majority of the 14 trauma calls, but not limited to, were: four auto accident victims; four falls; two assault calls and one gunshot victim.
