PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: SGA stays perfect with wins vs. Sherwood, Westwood

DAMASCUS — After cruising to a 13-1 win vs. Westwood on Monday, the Southwest Georgia Academy softball team clipped Sherwood on Tuesday, 3-1.

On Monday, Allison Warren (2-0) threw all four innings of the mercy-rule game and allowed just one hit. Leading SGA at the plate were Baylee Everson (4-4, 2 RBI), reigning Herald Player of the Year Madison Ragan (3-3, 2 RBI), Kendyl Carver (2-3, 2 RBI), Bella Cushing (2-3, RBI) and Julia Grimsley (2-3, RBI).

On Tuesday, two of Southwest Georgia’s best pitchers, Ragan and Anna Laine Brock of Sherwood, went head-to-head for the first time. Ragan allowed two hits and struck out 14 in the win, while Brock struck out 10 and allowed two hits. The game-winning hit came in the first inning when Warren hit a two-run single, scoring Everson and Braylie Blanton.

SGA (4-0, 1-0) plays again today at home against Tiftarea.

DOUGHERTY 5, WESTOVER 4: The Lady Trojans plated two runs in the top of the seventh to come back win Tuesday’s non-region game against Westover.

After tying the score at 4-4 in the seventh, Dougherty’s Takia Davis cross the plate on a passed ball to score the go-ahead run.

Davis also got the win for Dougherty (1-1) after entering the game in relief in the sixth inning. Leading the Lady Trojans at the plate were Ra’Keta Shelton (HR), Davis (1-2), Tai’keira Martin (1-2) and Brittany Fowler (2-3).

LEE COUNTY 7, CRISP COUNTY 3: Erin Callaway (4-1) threw a complete game Tuesday, allowing eight hits and three strikeouts to beat the Lady Cougars.

Lee County’s top hitters were Ashley Morris (2-2), Danielle Davis (2-2, 3 RBI), Sydney McLain (2-3, RBI) and Amanda Kelly (2-4).

The Lady Trojans, who improved to 8-3, play again today in Donalsonville against Seminole County.

TAE 8, DWS 3: Terrell Academy broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the third with a three-run inning and cruised to a victory Tuesday. Sophie Leverett was the winning pitcher after striking out six, while Deerfield’s Kendall Kirkland took the loss.

Terrell Academy’s leading hitters were Olivia Rogers (1-3, RBI), Brittany Spillman (2-4), Jordan Tessa (1-2, RBI), Caitlyn Harper (1-3, RBI) and Hannah Harrell (1-2).

DWS was paced at the plate by Emma Schneider (1-2), Kelsey King (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Browning Lane (1-3, 2B) and Chandler Harris (1-3, RBI).

The Lady Knights (3-6, 0-2) play again today at home against Sherwood.
