Colonel Shelton Otis Mitchell

JASPER - Lt. Colonel Shelton Otis Mitchell, US Army (Retired), age 92 of Jasper, FL. passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at his home following an illness of some time. He retired from a lengthy career in the United States Army where he was the recipient of numerous awards for his determination and dedication to his country.

He spent 45 years in Albany, Georgia where he migrated into Real Estate Development as a successful second career. Mr. Mitchell was a Mason and a Shriner and was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Live Oak, FL. In 2006 he was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Eileen Robarts Mitchell.

Survivors include one son, Stephen “Steve” R. Mitchell and his wife Irene, Albany, GA.; one daughter, LaJuana Mitchell Peterson of Jasper; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Live Oak, FL.

Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in White Springs, FL.

The family will receive friends between the hours of 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 30th at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL.
