VALDOSTA — Albany Christian rock band Thorns Deep has been selected to perform at Wild Adventures Theme Park’s “Take the Stage” Labor Day event.
Thorns Deep, who recently played a show at Atlanta’s Masquerade theater, will headline Monday’s musical performances, which include Take the Stage winners in four other categories.
“To play on a stage where (crossover Christian rock band) Skillet has played and even superstars in other genres, like country music’s Tim McGraw, is a dream-come-true for us,” Thorns Deep vocalist Codey Brown said. “When we got into this, we decided to be patient, not to try to rush out there and get signed by some big record label before we were ready.
“We decided to take little steps. Now the steps are getting a little bigger.”
Thorns Deep submitted mp3s of their original music in the initial phase of the Take the Stage competition. Chosen as a finalist in the Christian rock category, the Albany band — bassist Davis Wynn, drummer Jason Langley, guitarists Jacob Teter and Mac Christmas, and Brown — was selected by fans as their genre’s top act.
Other winners scheduled to perform Monday include country artist Justin Phillips, metal act Dire, R&B performers Live Five and rap group ThaRockBoyz. Thorns Deep is scheduled to take the stage at 6 p.m.
“We’ve been at this for three years now, and it’s really starting to get surreal for us,” Brown said. “We’re at a point where we’re starting to get our name out there, but all along we’ve remained true to our purpose, which is reaching people for God.
“I believe that by being patient, and taking advantage of what were considered small opportunities, we’ve managed to open some doors.”
