Top Newcomers: G Trey Young (So., 5-9); G Chandler Matthews (So., 5-8); F Austin Fallaw (Jr., 6-3); C Dakarai Cutts (Jr., 6-2)

Season Outlook: The Knights lost a wealth of talent from last season’s Class AAA state runner-up team that won 24 games, including star guard Ramello Carter. Only one starter is back. Senior Jay Barber (6.6 ppg, 2.1 apg) returns at point guard. The senior group may be small, but a talented group of underclassmen are expected to step forward and contribute.


SOUTHLAND RAIDERS

2012-13 Record: 8-13

Returning Starters: G William Oster (Sr.); G Dustin Shattles (Sr.); F Geoffrey McDonald (Jr.); C Ford Roach (Sr.)

Other Returning Players: G Cleve Bass (Jr.); C Jackson Hayes (Jr.); C Kyle Crew (Sr.)

Top Newcomers: G Michael Volley (Sr.,); G Keyon Stone (Jr.)

Season Outlook: The Raiders hope four returning starters will help the team improve upon last season’s record. Three of the four returners are seniors, including a pair of solid guards in William Oster and Dustin Shattles.


REGION 3-AA

SHERWOOD CHRISTIAN EAGLES

Head Coach: Bryan Gelfand

Assistant coaches: Vince King, Patrick Stanford, Pete McSwain

2012-13 Record: 13-14

Other Returning Players: G Greg Elder (Jr., 5-10); G Seth King (Jr., 6-0); G Parker Hatcher (Sr., 5-10); G Laveec Kelley (Sr., 5-8); C Kenney Brown (Jr., 6-2)

Top Newcomers: G Chris Thomas (Jr., 5-10); G Juwan Henderson (Jr., 6-2); F T.J. Johnson (Sr., 6-0); F Michael Hill (Jr., 5-10)

Season Outlook: The Eagles have very little experience returning. However, keep an eye on a strong group of juniors. Guard Chris Thomas, a transfer from Dougherty, is promising. The roster may be young, but the Eagles could be trouble as the season progresses.


SOUTHWEST GEORGIA ACADEMY WARRIORS

2012-13 Record: 18-12

Other Returning Players: G K.D. Sizemore (Jr.); G Quinn LaGuardia (So.); G Perry Bridges (Jr.)

Top Newcomers: G Tristan Moulton (Sr.); G Griff Keith (Sr.); C Dylan Cody (Sr.)

Season Outlook: The Warriors have a good nucleus of returning talent and should be in postseason contention. A pair of guards in Teal Massey and Brandon Brooking will lead the way. A solid group of juniors will challenge for playing time.


TERRELL ACADEMY EAGLES

2012-13 Record: 13-13

Returning Starters: G Raleigh Carlson (Jr., 6-0, 150); F Alan Stewart (Sr., 6-3, 165); G Gable Freeman (Jr., 5-9, 140); G/F Conor Walsh (Jr., 6-3, 165)

Other Returning Players: G/F Carson Chambless (Jr., 6-0, 165); G Tyler Myers (So., 6-2, 150); F Christian Harris (So., 6-0, 175); G Gabe Carlton (So., 6-0, 160)

Top Newcomers: F Jared Sauls (Jr., 6-2, 175); G/F Dalton Todd (Jr., 6-0, 165); F Marquan Jones (Sr., 6-2, 175); G/F Khashaad Johnson (Sr., 5-11, 165)

Season Outlook: The Eagles should have a chance to improve significantly over last season’s record as four starters return. Senior forward Alan Stewart is the only returning senior and will be expected to lead the way. Terrell has a solid group of juniors and sophomores which will be expected to contribute.


WESTWOOD WILDCATS

Head Coach: Al Timmerman

2012-13 Record: 4-14

Season Outlook: The Wildcats hope to get things turned around after a disappointing finish last year. The Wildcats don’t have any returning starters, however, a solid junior class will be expected to contribute. Westwood should improve as the season progresses.


REGION 3-A

CRISP ACADEMY WILDCATS

Season Outlook: A strong group of seniors return for Crisp Academy who should have a chance to improve upon last season’s finish. The Wildcats have good size and if they can find some consistency in the backcourt, they could be tough.
