ALBANY — A four-star Army general will deliver the keynote address at Albany State University’s fall commencement Saturday morning.
Regent Larry R. Ellis, representing the 5th Congressional District of the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents and a retired Army general, will join ASU Interim President Dr. Arthur N. Dunning in a salute to the fall 2013 graduating class at 10 a.m. Saturday at the James H. Gray, Sr. Civic Center.
Administrators will award 331 degrees to students at the education specialist, masters and undergraduate levels.
Saturday’s activities will also include a commissioning ceremony of Cadet Apollo Abrams. She will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Ellis served in the U. S. Army for more than 35 years with nearly half his service assigned overseas. Today, he is the chief executive officer of Atlanta based VetConnexx, LLC. The company provides jobs and career opportunities for veterans and their spouses.
Ellis earned an undergraduate degree at Morgan State University and a graduate degree from Indiana University. His honors include an Honorary Doctor of Laws, Honorary Master of Strategic Studies, the Indiana University Distinguished Alumni Service Award, the NAACP National Service Award, the ROCK of the Year Award and the Outstanding Role Model of the Year Award.
