ALBANY —Phoebe Putney Health System will no longer be managing Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, officials with Phoebe have announced.
Phoebe and the Hospital Authority of Ben Hill County, for the past several months, have been evaluating their current management agreement in which Phoebe’s subsidiary, Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center, has been managing the hospital. Phoebe and the Ben Hill Authority have mutually agreed to dissolve the affiliation, officials said.
Over the next few months, the two parties will take action to discontinue Phoebe’s management of the facility and to terminate previous plans to enter into a long-term lease arrangement. This will return the management and operation of the facility to the Authority.
Officials say the Ben Hill County community has benefited from accomplishments the partnership garnered over the past three years from increased access to advanced specialties, to quality performances that earned the hospital the distinction of being named to the Elite Circle by the Georgia Hospital Association’s Hospital Engagement Network and to achieving DNV accreditation.
The priority, Phoebe officials said, is to ensure a seamless transition for the employees and continued quality patient care. To that end, Phoebe is currently working to help stabilize transition efforts so that Dorminy Medical Center may continue its role as a vital source of care.
There were no details immediately available regarding the reason for the change.
