ALBANY —An aggravated assault in South Albany ended with the incident’s suspect in the hospital early Monday morning, officials with the Albany Police Department say.

The assault was reported to have taken place just before 1 a.m. on Monday at 415 Louis Ave. Officers spoke with the victim, who stated he came in contact with the suspect, Lavoski Canty, 37. Following a brief exchange, the victim stated that a physical altercation ensued during which the suspect ended up being shot in the left thigh, police officials say.

The suspect was treated by emergency medical technicians and transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for further treatment. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday afternoon that Canty was in good condition.

No further additional information was immediately available Monday, and the case remains open and active.
