ALBANY —As a way to help promote the season of giving and contribute to a good cause, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital will be holding a community blood drive on Thursday at the main campus on West Third Avenue.
The drive is taking place in the cafeteria solarium from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
The blood drive also comes at a time in which blood products are traditionally in shorter supply due to holiday festivities and fewer drives taking place.
Every person who donates will receive either a Starbucks gift card or meal ticket as well as a free long sleeve T-shirt from the American Red Cross. If the goal of 100 units is met, each donor will be placed in a drawing to win a Kindle Fire, courtesy of the Red Cross, coordinators of the blood drive say.
Aside from the drive at Phoebe, other opportunities to give blood through the end of the year will be at the Albany Blood Donation Center at 1515 Dawson Road and at the Albany Mall from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on Dec. 31. Most healthy individuals who are at least 17-years-old and weigh 110 pounds are eligible to donate.
