CAMILLA- Bennette Lay, 71, of Mitchell County, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at his residence.
Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 27 at Springhill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Charles Blanton will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Harrell, Chuck Bryant, Jerry Reeves, Bryant Collins, Melvin Hunt, Elisha Harrell, Buddy Ward, Chris Hayden, Branson Beasley, and Richard Beasley.
Born July 13, 1942 in Westminster, S.C., Mr. Lay was the son of the late Doc Jessie and Helen Knox Lay. He was a high voltage electrical contractor, having owned and operated T & D Utility Services. Mr. Lay was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard. He attended Springhill Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Williams Lay of Mitchell County; two daughters, Laura Beasley and husband, Richard, of Mitchell Co. and LaTayne Hatcher of Mitchell Co.; one brother, Richard Lay of Pickens, S.C.; three sisters, Carolyn Lay of Atlanta, Beth Johnson of Canton, GA, and Jeanette Jung of Atlanta; 4 grandchildren, Branson Beasley, Blaze Beasley, Blaire Beasley, and Samantha Hatcher.
