Albany native promoted to lieutenant colonel

Gary S. Cooper, who was born and raised in Albany, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army.

Cooper is the son of Larice and Aniese Cooper of Albany. He was promoted earlier this month during ceremonies at Fort Sam Houston near San Antonio, Texas.

Cooper enlisted in the Army in 1986 and served in the enlisted ranks until 1994. He received his bachelor of business administration at Savannah State University and completed his masters in general management from Touro University International. Cooper completed the Reserve Officers Training Corps program and received his commission in 1996.

Cooper has served in a variety of field and fixed assignments. He currently is chief of supply chain management branch in the Logistics Division on he Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Lewis Graduates from NNPTC

Navy Machinist Mate Third Class Troy Lewis of Albany recently graduated from the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training Center in Goose Creek, S.C.

Lewis is a 2008 graduate of Westover High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Georgia.
