Man fatally shoots one dog in pit bull fight on 11th Avenue

A fight between two pit bulls that the shooter said couldn't be separated ended before 1:15 p.m. Saturday when the dog was fatally shot at 1110 11th Avenue.

According to an Albany Police Department report, Paul Hughes shot the dog. The surviving pit bull's owner is Nigel Jones.

A man who resides in the house less than a block from the scene with the dog that was shot said her name was Zola. According to him, she followed her puppy out from the screened porch. The puppy was attacked by the other pit bull and Zola protected it, said the man who said he did not own the dog and requested anonymity.

Hughes said he had a concealed carry permit. The name of the puppy and the dog who survived the fight remained unavailable.

Isn't there a leash law that applies even on 11th Avenue?
