MELBOURNE, Fla. — After a shaky opening round to the 2013 season, the Darton golfers fired a 290 Monday afternoon to storm back into fourth place in the Titan Winter Invitational.
Darton shot a 305 Monday morning and went into the afternoon’s second round in seventh place, but the Cavs put together the second-lowest score of the day in the 15-team tournament and are now just two shots out of second place heading into today’s final round.
“We are very proud of the comeback, and hopefully we can keep it rolling (today),” Darton coach Bill Jones III said.
Darton is 14 shots behind leader University of Tampa — an NCAA Division II school — but just two strokes behind Central Alabama Community College and Florida Tech.
Nick Green led Darton with rounds of 72 and 71, followed by Madison Turner (78-71), Parks Brown (78-72), Taylor Martin (77-76), Robert Robertson (78-81) and Taylor Vaughn (78-78).
The Cavs tee off in today’s final round at 8 a.m.
Macht breaks Darton 500 freestyle record
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Anna Macht did it again.
The Darton State College sophomore broke the school record in the 500-meter freestyle in Saturday’s Birmingham Southern Invitational adding to her already impressive resume of school records in the 100 free, 200 free, 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke.
Saturday’s record-breaker comes as the Cavs are preparing for nationals in the first week of March, when Macht will look to defend her national title in the 400 IM.
