ATLANTA — Andrew Allen Cook, convicted of the 1995 murders of two Mercer University students, has been scheduled for execution at 7 p.m. Feb. 21.
According to Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens, Monroe County Superior Court on Tuesday set a seven-day window for the execution — Feb. 21-28. Olens said Cook has concluded his direct appeal proceedings in state and federal court.
In 1998, Cook was tried in Monroe County Superior Court on two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder and one count of armed robbery in the shooting deaths of Michele Lee Cartagena and Grant Patrick Hendrickson, who were killed while at a location known as "The Point" at Lake Juliette. Cook was convicted on the murder charges and sentenced to death in Cartagenia's murder and life in prison for Hendrickson's homicide.
