BAINBRIDGE, Ga. — A Bainbridge doctor, businessman and author will be the next senator for District 11 after beating a former Georgia House member for the seat Tuesday.
Dr. Dean Burke will be the newest senator under the Gold Dome after beating Mike Keown in a special runoff election Tuesday. According to the Georgia secretary of state’s office, Burke edged Keown with 58.4 percent of the vote, or 7,738 total votes.
Burke will take over the district that covers a broad area of Southwest Georgia, including parts of eight different counties. Former Sen. John Bulloch had held the seat but resigned following a battle with meningitis.
Burke, who owns a gynecology and obstetrics office in Bainbridge, also runs the website http://themillionairenurse.com, which is dedicated to helping sell his book by the same name while also marketing various speaking engagements meant to help nurses grow their own personal wealth.
Calls to his medical office seeking comment Wednesday weren’t returned.
