BLAKELY -- Gloria Melba Dake DeLoach, 88, of Blakely, Georgia passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at her residence in Blakely, GA. following a prolonged illness. She was born on October 11, 1924 in Austell, Georgia to the late Zoe Lottie Mozley Dake and Lanius Taylor Dake as the second of four daughters. After graduating from Austell High School in 1942, she attended Massey Business College in Atlanta, Georgia. She worked at Austell Bank as the President's assistant before moving to Dothan, Alabama where she served in a similar capacity to the owner of Kirk Telephone System. She lived in Dothan, Alabama until 1961 when she moved to Blakely, GA where she was an owner of Georgia Telephone Corporation, raised her family, and enjoyed many hobbies. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, needlework, painting, fishing, and cooking. She enjoyed making her home more beautiful and received the honor of "Garden of the Year" in Blakely. But of all the many things she enjoyed, it was spending time with her family that meant the most to her, particularly children and grandchildren.
Mrs. DeLoach is survived by one son, William Charles "Chuck" DeLoach, Jr. and Michelle Dennis of Blakely, Georgia; and one daughter, Jane Anne DeLoach Sullivan and her husband Vic Sullivan of Albany, Georgia. She has three grandchildren, Victor C. Sullivan, IV and fiance Katie Zager of Albany, Georgia, Gloria Margaret Sullivan of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mary Elaine DeLoach of Blakely, Georgia; one sister, Betty Anne Dake Bergen of Austell, Georgia. A cousin, Gwen Causy Scott. She is also survived by many close nieces and nephews: Jim Coburn, Dorothy Miller, Donnie Miller, Brad Jordan, Pat Jordan, Becky Jordan Baker, David Bergen, Ed Bergen and Elizabeth Bergen Berry.
Mrs. DeLoach was preceded in death by her parents, Zoe Lottie Mozley Dake and Lanius Taylor Dake, and two sisters Dorothy Jane Dake Coburn, Nelle Winston Dake Jordan and one niece, Gloria Carolyn Coburn Miller.
Mrs. DeLoach was blessed with many loving companions, particularly Versie Lee Davis who was with her for close to 50 years. Mrs. Davis' children, Eugene Davis and Pricilla Richardson were also very special in that they cared for her with great kindness. Other special caregivers during her illness were Carolyn Williams and Lucille Smith.
Services will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Blakely, Georgia at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 1:00 PM in the church Fellowship Hall. Reverend Dwight Bishop and Dr. William D. (Biff) Coker will officiate the service. A private committal will take place following the service. Active Pallbearers will be Claude Bell, Jim Coburn, Bob Collier, Eugene Davis, Jerry Nix, Tommy Sullivan, Frank Sullivan, and Byrd Sullivan. Honorary Pallbearers will be her nephews: Donnie Miller, Brad Jordan, Pat Jordan, Buzzy Baker, David Bergen, Ed Bergen, and Jeff Berry.
