LEESBURG — Hundreds of Lee County girls have a special date this Saturday night — with their daddies.
Leesburg United Methodist Church is hosting the fifth annual Daddy-Daughter Dance Saturday with three separate dances scheduled.
The Rev. Mike Lyon, pastor of Leesburg UMC, said funds from the event, which is expected to attract from 1,000 to 1,400 participants, are used for the church’s mission needs.
More important than the proceeds, Lyon said, is improving the bond between fathers and their daughters.
“We spend so much to make this dance awesome that the proceeds are not that significant,” Lyon said. “We cover the large gymnasium with elaborate decorations and want to make this a wonderful experience where the daughters think their daddies are the best things since sliced bread.”
This year’s event will be held at Lee County Elementary School at 185 Firetower Road. There are three dances scheduled.
The first one, from 4 p.m. through 5:30 p.m., is designed specifically for daughters ages 5 or below. Lyon said this dance allows the younger girls an opportunity to have a special outing and still get back home in time for their normal nighttime routine.
The second dance begins at 6 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m. The final dance begins at 8:30 p.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m. Lyon noted that daughters under the age of 5 also may attend the later dances if they choose.
The admission is $10 a person for the first dance and $12 a person for the final two dances.
Tickets can be purchased online only at www.leesburgumc.com/ddd. Once the order is placed, tickets will arrive via email. Tickets may be available at the door depending on availability. Lyon said attendance at each dance is limited to 700. Photographs will be taken beginning 30 minutes prior to each dance.

“This is a meaningful experience,” Lyon said. “We’re reaching 1,400 people in Lee County having a great time. What we want is the heart of a daughter to be touched by the heart of their daddy. Sometimes daddies have a harder time entering into a girl’s world, and this gives them an opportunity to do that.”
