City sees more than an inch of rain, more than 15 wrecks

ALBANY, Ga. — The National Weather Service reported more than 1.1 inches rain fell in Albany by 4 p.m. Thursday. An Albany Police Department report, meanwhile, stated at about the same time, "Motorists need to slow down. Officers have worked close to 15-20 wrecks today."

Typical of the wrecks police reported: 58-year-old Michael Bell drove a 2000 Chrysler Voyager van out of McDonald's at 2448 N. Slappey Blvd. before 8:10 a.m. into the path of 20-year-old Brandon Whitaker's 1995 Mercury Sable.

The Sable bounced off the van, the report stated, and hit an unoccupied 2000 International 4300 Albany Beverage truck. Bell was cited for failure to yield.

People need to slow down. Drivers are inconsiderate and wreckless. I'd rather drive in Atlanta than here.

I saw someone pass someone on 3rd avenue dangerously splashing water all over the place. I know they could not have been in that big of a hurry. It's better to get to your destination late than not at all.

My daughter noticed new skid marks where she ran off of a ramp one morning and they took out a sign...I hope they were as lucky as she was.
