TIFTON, Ga. — Tift County School Board members are weighing a proposal that would require students to wear uniforms to school.
The Tifton Gazette reports that Tift County School Superintendent Patrick Atwater floated the idea at the board's work session this week.
Primarily focused on security, Atwater said uniforms would better allow school officials to observe someone who comes into the school and shouldn't be there and would help curb attempts by street gangs to show their colors during the school day.
The paper reports that board member Rita Griffin suggested forming a committee to do more research on the issue before bringing the matter back before the entire board for consideration.
